You want a laptop because?

The main reason most people seem to want laptops is because there are fewer wires, they run on batteries, less mess, take up less space, etc. Laptops are fine, epically if you need to use them for work, out and about, on holiday, or off down to the second home in France. They have certainly become a lot cheaper, but you still tend to get what you pay for.

At last most manufacturers are installing enough ram to make the experience fun, but not always. If you are buying a laptop my suggestion is as follows ...

Go for Intel, the i3, i5 and i7 range are superb, you can always of course chose the AMD range, but who has the need of so much pain in their lives. You need at least 2 gigs of RAM, more equates to better. Hard Drives are bigger than ever, a 320 gig drive is a good starting point. Windows 7 is proving to be the Operating system of choice, we have been running it for over 18 months now and we would not swap it.

There is one truth about computers, they have lots of wires. Every house has a spaghetti monster and they all get twisted and tied up, it is the natural order of things. Plus therapy is a lot cheaper than repairing lap tops. If the power cord stops working everyone twists the cord until it works, the trouble is that make it worse and an even more expensive repair. Laptops are like boats and horses, they always cost more to repair.

But we could of course always buy an Apple, They never break down, they never catch bugs and they can do so much more. They look so pretty, you can smile because you own one and you can bask in the glow of having paid so much more than you should have done if you had bought anything but. If you are working in the media use Apple, If you want to look like a victim of fashion, buy Apple, If you want to contribute to the richest computer manufacturer on the planet with a still 14% footprint in computers, then buy Apple. Steve Jobs will get around to saying thanks. But if in the meantime you want to just have fun, play a few games, send emails and photos, then stick to PCs.
