It is War out there

It has been a nasty couple of weeks on the web. As always it is a battle between the light and the dark. At the moment the dark side seems to have an edge.

If you get a call from a company that says you have bad infections on your system, that they come from Microsoft, that they can show you the infections on your computer JUST hang up. They are crooks trying to steal your money and your ID.

A customer received a call like this, had allowed access remotely to his computer, and only began to suspect that something was wrong when the scammers asked for money. While arguing and demanding to speak to their supervisor all his personal documents were being both copied and deleted. Not a happy bunny.

If you receive a call from someone saying they are from Microsoft, or an internet security company just hang up. It costs a lot of money to get to talk to Bill's company and they NEVER cold call.

There have also been a wave of malware attacks, several reputable web sites had their site's infected causing a large number of computers to also become infected. The reason they do this is to get you to subscribe to a program that will clear the problems, it won't, all they will do is steal your money and your personal details.

If you have a bug on your computer and you do online banking, or buy online, phone your bank and card company and tell them. That way your accounts will be monitored for suspicious activity. The internet can be the modern day badlands and not all the scammers wear black hats.
